Individual Donors can take advantage of two different tax credits for private schools, the Original Tax Credit and the Overflow (Switcher) Tax Credit. The main distinction between these credits is for parents—all private school students are eligible to receive Original Tax Credit Scholarships, while there are a few eligibility restrictions for students receiving Overflow Scholarships.

Donors must first donate the Original Tax Credit maximum ($1,308 married / $655 single) in order to donate any additional amount to the Overflow Tax Credit maximum ($1,301 married / $652 single), up to that credit’s allowed maximum donation.

CAN I RECOMMEND A STUDENT?

Yes! When you make a donation to School Choice Arizona as an Individual donor, you can identify a school which you would like to receive scholarship funds, and you can even recommend a specific student to be considered for one!

Donors may recommend a student or identify a school, but actual scholarships are subject to the absolute discretion of School Choice Arizona. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to the student’s race, color, handicap, familial status, or national origin. Scholarships are used for K-12 students attending private schools in Arizona. Arizona law requires that 90% of donated funds are awarded as scholarships. However, 92% of all donations will be used for scholarships through School Choice Arizona.

CAN I DONATE UP UNTIL APRIL 15TH?

Yes!  Individual donors may donate prior to filing their taxes, but no later than April 15 (whichever comes first), and claim the credit for the previous year’s taxes.  There are no extensions, so donations must be postmarked or entered online no later than midnight, April 15.

Many donors wait until they receive their W-2s so they can calculate their exact tax liability, then make a donation prior to filing their taxes.

Other donors choose not to worry about figuring this out and donate through their Payroll Withholdings!
